DART is beginning a public/private partnership with the company CommuterAds to air new audio advertisements on DART buses in June. CommuterAds uses professional voice artists to record 15 second ads with 13 other transit agencies around the United States. These ads will serve as an additional revenue source for DART to help us provide the best possible service to our customers.
In addition to selling 15 second ads to local businesses, DART will air special messages for riders through the CommuterAds system, replacing the current audio messaging DART has been airing.
DART did test the advertisements with its Transit Riders Advisory Council who approved the plan to run the new ads.
CommuterAds will sell audio ads to businesses that will air based on specific buses based on their location to a business or a specific bus stop. The ads are restricted on how often they will air. During a 40-minute commute, riders should expect to hear an average of 2-5 ads, or a total of 1 minute and 15 seconds of audio advertising during their trip.
