Riders should be aware that DART will not provide school trips during Des Moines Public School District’s (DMPS) summer break. DART will remove these trips from our schedules, effective Sunday, June 3, 2018. We will add these trips back into our schedules as part of our August service change on Sunday, August 19.
This change will only affect select trips on certain Local Routes. No map or major schedule changes will occur as part of this service change.
School trip changes
Certain Local Routes have select trips in the morning or afternoon that are added to DART’s schedules during the school year. These trips transport DMPS students and staff to school and back. During summer break, DART removes service to these stops from our schedules.
Showing the impact: This example from the current schedule for Local Route 8 – Fleur Drive shows the impact of this change. Buses only stop at the times highlighted in orange while DMPS students are in session. Therefore, until the next service change in August 2018, buses will not stop at the stops highlighted in orange.
In total, eight of DART’s Local Routes have school stops that buses will not service over the summer. These routes include:
- Local Route 1 – Fairgrounds
- Local Route 6 – Indianola Avenue
- Local Route 7 – SW 9th Street
- Local Route 8 – Fleur Drive
- Local Route 13 – SE Park Avenue
- Local Route 14 – Beaver Avenue
- Local Route 15 – 6th Avenue
- Local Route 16 – Douglas Avenue
As a reminder, there will not be any map or major schedule changes for the routes listed above. The only change will be to remove the school stops for these routes.
You can locate these stops by clicking on the links above to view the schedule for each route. DART highlights the impacted school stops on schedules.
Deer Ridge schedule data
DART is continuing to offer a shuttle between the Deer Ridge Apartment Complex located on Creston Avenue in SW Des Moines and the Walmart in Windsor Heights. As part of this service change, schedule information for this route will be available to view in online trip planners, including the MyDART Trip Planner and Google Maps.
Riders should be aware that this is scheduled, not real-time, bus data. Please plan to arrive at the pick-up stops for the shuttle at Deer Ridge or at Walmart at least 5 minutes before the schedule departure time. More information on this shuttle, including fare and schedule information is available here.
