Thank you to the riders who shared their feedback in response to major service changes anticipated to take place in West Des Moines and north Des Moines during summer 2023. Please look for additional information to be shared in spring 2023 prior to the service changes.

To learn more about the proposed changes, you may watch the video captured at one of DART’s public meetings or read about each change below:

Provide Feedback on Possible New Operations and Maintenance Facility

Project overview

DART has outgrown its existing operations and maintenance facility located at 1100 DART Way in Des Moines, which is beyond its useful life—requiring significant and costly renovations. As a result, DART is evaluating building a new operations and maintenance facility located in southeast Des Moines off of Vandalia Road in the vicinity of the area shown below.

Closed course open to potential bus drivers Nov. 2 and Nov. 3

DART will be holding a job fair at the Iowa State Fairgrounds Middway on November 2nd from 2 - 6 p.m. and November 3rd from 7:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. This fair will allow potential drivers to get to handle a 40-foot-long passenger bus and smaller paratransit bus around a closed course. Job-seekers will have the opportunity to get the feel of driving a bus and connect with DART Human Resources about beginning a new career.

DART is seeking input from residents in 50314 Zip Code neighborhoods

DART is asking anyone who lives or works in one of the neighborhoods in the 50314 zip code in north Des Moines to complete a survey providing feedback on transportation options in the area. The feedback will help DART identify what transportation challenges people traveling, living or working in this area have and evaluate if additional public transit solutions may improve people’s mobility.

DART Operators Compete in State Roadeo, Recognized as Drivers of the Year

As part of the Iowa Public Transit Association's (IPTA's) annual meeting and Roadeo in early July 2022, several DART Fixed Route and Paratransit Operators were recognized for their efforts. As part of the annual meeting, one DART Fixed Route Operator, Greg Bailey and one DART Paratransit Operator, Joe Vitale, were recognized as DART's Operators of the year. These employees were selected for this recognition by DART staff and were featured in a dinner during the annual meeting in Cedar Rapids.
