Family of Services

DART operates a family of transportation services in the Greater Des Moines region that connect people to jobs, medical appointments, shopping, entertainment and more. DART maintains a fleet of more than 260 vehicles to provide four different services: Fixed Route bus service, Caravan by DART vanpools, Paratransit and On-Call. DART's Family of services include 114 Fixed Route buses, 112 RideShare vans, 23 Paratransit buses and 14 Flex and On-Call buses.

Local Routes

DART operates 19 Local Routes operating throughout the day up to seven days a week.
 

DART Local Routes serve: Altoona, Beaverdale, Clive, Des Moines, Johnston, Pleasant Hill, Valley Junction, Urbandale, West Des Moines and Windsor Heights.

Express Routes

DART operates seven Express Routes on weekdays during morning and evening commute times. These use the freeway to travel between the suburbs and downtown Des Moines, with limited stops providing quick, direct service.

DART Express Routes serve: Altoona, Ankeny, Clive, downtown Des Moines, Johnston, Urbandale and West Des Moines.

DART operates two free shuttles which operate in Downtown Des Moines, the Link and the D-Line.
 

DART On Demand

DART On Demand is a new microtransit service that provides curb-to-curb, on-demand shared rides within a designated zone in Ankeny, near Jordan Creek in West Des Moines and near the River Bend neighborhood in Des Moines. DART On Demand replaced the Ankeny On Call on Nov. 15, 2021. 

Flex Connect

Flex Connect is an on-demand service DART is testing that connects riders in the Flex Connect zone to DART buses. Flex Connect replaced Flex Route 73 in Urbandale and Windsor Heights.

With Flex Connect, riders in the zone can book an Uber, YellowCabCo. or a DART accessible vehicle to take them to and from one of three transfer points: Gloria Dei Park & Ride, Buccaneer Arena Park & Ride or Merle Hay Mall. From there, riders can connect to DART buses via routes 5, 14, 16, 50, 92 or 93.

On Call

DART bus operator helps a man with a cane exit a Paratransit bus. DART operates On Call service, which will pick passengers up at their door and take them to destinations within a specified zone. Riders must call in advance to schedule a trip.

DART On Call serves: Northeast Suburban, Easter Lake and Grimes. 
 

Paratransit

DART Paratransit is a door-to-door and wheelchair accessible service available for senior citizens and persons with disabilities who are functionally unable to independently use DART’s Fixed Route bus service.

Individuals who want to use Paratransit must fill out an application. Paratransit riders must call ahead to reserve their trip.
 

Caravan by DART

Caravan by DART serves an 18-county region, helping commuters locate others with like travel patterns to share rides in vanpools.

DART’s vanpools are used by groups of five to 12 commuters for trips to and from work.
